The "Childhood Memories" Edition...
I was feeling low one day last week and opened one of my few remaining cans of the "throwback" Beefaroni. Once I was old enough to be left home alone on a Friday night by my parents, this was my usual Friday meal as I got comfy in my beanbag chair to watch something on TV. It tasted like freedom and independence to me back then. Ah, nostalgia.....;-)

I spent $47.61 on food/toiletries/HBA the last 2 weeks. This brings our food/toiletries/paper goods Total to $139.96 for December.
There are 5 shopping days left in December. I may go out for milk and a few assorted things but mostly I am done grocery shopping in 2021.
I've earned $138.79 on Ibotta in December.
I've earned $7.00 on Checkout51 in December.

We'll be eating leftovers from Christmas plus I am using some leftover roux/cheese from the mac and cheese I made plus some fresh broccoli that didn't get roasted to make a soup later in the week. The Pork cutlets I found at Weis(PMITA)Markets on clearance.
What do I need to buy to fix everything on this menu? Not a thing. Eating up leftovers mostly.
What is getting fixed and served at your house this week?
Was last week's plan successful, did you go off plan or did you not even plan what was going to be eaten last week?
Any great deals on food at your stores this week?
Here's today's Holiday tune......
You're the second person I have read that had leftover homemade mac and cheese and now I want that addition to my Christmas dinner. Maybe I'll make it one night this week, though my daughter has asked for "no more cheese dishes" for a while. I love the nostalgia-it was crap in a can, but we could cook it oursleves!
ReplyDeleteYou made me start singing the beefaroni song "we're having beefaroni ---beef and macaroni ...beefaroni's full of meat...beefaroni's really neat...beefaroni's fun to eat...Hooray for beefaroni!
ReplyDeleteDoes it still taste like freedom and independence?
For me it was a Swanson TV dinner, hamburger steak, peas and carrots, and mashed potatoes in an aluminum tray. Since I was "cooking" it myself I never let it cook the required time and ate a lukewarm TV dinner. I am not sure it tasted like freedom. In fact I am not sure it had any taste at all
I suppose I will finally put the oven in the oven since it thawed! So, you know what the rest of the week will be--turkey and something else. I never had beefaroni.
ReplyDeleteBeefaroni, such goodness in a can, lol. I haven’t even thought about what to make for dinner this week. I need to get on that.
ReplyDeleteOh wow.. Chef Boy-ar-Dee!! When it was just my daughter and I, I was able to get these dirt cheap, and would add green beans, garlic toast for a quick easy dinner.
ReplyDeleteWhat's for dinner, roasted veggies, eggs and whatever I can find in the pantry. Need to use up a bunch of stuff. I went to a cousins house for dinner, but did not bring home some leftovers (I should have nabbed some of the prime rib), but other than that, just low key items.
