I am so blessed! My daughter and granddaughters are coming home for Thanksgiving this year!
ReplyDeleteAnother great give away... Thank-you... We're traveling to our daughters for Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteBonnie S.
I cook 2 Thanksgiving dinners. One for the 3 adults in our household and one for a small group of homeless guys that live in the woods behind a nearby shopping center. We take them meals often and hire a couple of them occasionally to help us cut and split firewood. They have lived in the woods for over 4 years and have a nice clean area. Yes, we have invited them to eat here but they prefer eating at their camp.
ReplyDeleteA favorite Thanksgiving food at our house: whole berry cranberry sauce, homemade of course.

Staying home this year and food is all about the side dishes, I could do without the turkey! Happy Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteHello... how funny, I was posting about your giveaways! They are the best! To answer your question, I generally go to my cousins, but not this year. I decided to celebrate solo. Tomorrow I'll comment on my favorite family dish.
ReplyDeleteWell Thanksgiving was always at our house as a kid, which I hated, because the boy cousins were so noisy and broke things of mine. Now I love the boy cousins, funny how that works. We have a cranberry salad that grandma made every year and we still make it. I think I just loved the meal in general and I really love pie, almost as much as donuts.
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe it's already Thanksgiving! When did that happen...sigh. Although all our "kids" are technically adults now, we will have a small feast at home with turkey, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, deviled eggs, and homemade rolls. You had me at chocolate on the giveaway :) Tebble S.
ReplyDeleteWe will be home, not all the kids/grandkids are not vaccinated and don't want to risk us. If we go to their house they think we need to cook the meal at our home and deliver it to them even though we live 2 hrs away. I still will make shrimp cocktail (my late parents) Roasted turkey, baked sweet potatoes (like a baked potato not a candied dish) Cranberry sauce (my parents) Baked bacon and cheese Brussel Sprouts (youngest started that one about 10 yrs ago) pumpkin pie , mincemeat pie (hubby's late grandparents). Table cloth, cloth napkin (ok we do that daily) candles We removed the oyster dressing, candied sweet potatoes and blueberry dessert
ReplyDeleteNo traveling! At home we had Turkey and cornbread dressing, mashed potatoes, candied sweet potatoes ffrom sweet potatoes in a can, giblet gravy, jellied cranberry sauce from can and some that Mama made from cranberries, purple hull peas, rolls, green beans, corn, and a Jello salad. There were always about 8 pumpkin pies, and cakes. When I was older, I made chocolate pound cake and one sister made banana pudding. I may have missed a few things. We loved pumpkin pies. Mama would make one for each of us because we argues about who was eating them all. She put our initial on our pie and put it in a freezer bag for us. She made a white cake with 7-minute frosting with coconut all over it, a sight to see.
ReplyDeleteWe have two family Thanksgivings. We go to my mom's house the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Then all of my husband's family comes to my house on Thanksgiving Day.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful give a way box!
Thanksgiving will be home as usual. We cook a turkey and all the sides. But my favorite foods on Thanksgiving are the cheese and cracker platter and relish tray. Some years I would just be satisfied with that! It will be me, dh, dd and our 2 grandchildren.
I am hoping to get a piece of pecan pie at Thanksgiving - but I may have to actually bake one for this to happen. I don't have to make the big meal so that is a relief...
ReplyDeleteGooble Gooble! I make the usual contenders. Turkey, Stuffing, Mashed Potatoes, Etc. Parades and Football on the Tube. That's about it.
ReplyDeleteSince we mostly always went to my mother's house, we had wonderful chaos with my children loving to be at Memaw's house. Usually, it was warm enough they could go outdoors at least part of the day. Nap? I did not know that was allowed.
ReplyDeleteHubby went down memory lane and realized they only went to his dad's side for the holidays and never his mom's side. And they didn't get invited anywhere.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Thanksgiving food is a homemade stuffing that we make... it's the only time of year we have it and it is such a treat!
ReplyDeleteBonnie S
Not going anywhere for Thanksgiving nor having any company coming here. I can't believe the holidays are here already. Where did the year go?
ReplyDeleteSuzanne
We're spending Thanksgiving this year with our dear DIL's parents and sister plus our son, DIL, and three teenage grands and one 8-year-old grandson. We are blessed. Not all family here, unfortunately, but some, and for that we're truly blessed.
ReplyDeleteWe're already "here" -- had to go to Michigan when my mom got seriously ill. We've been here since Oct. 20, and probably will be in Michigan (we live in Colorado) the rest of the year. So Thanksgiving and Christmas will both be with my mom.

ReplyDeleteOne of our traditional dishes is candied sweet potatoes. I think the emphasis is more on "candied" than sweet potatoes as it probably doesn't qualify as a healthy dish :) It is really good though!
ReplyDeleteWe plan on having a small get together with close family and taking it easy.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite thanksgiving food is dressing with cranberry sauce.

staying home enjoying the turkey!
ReplyDeletethanks
martha
I was born on Thanksgiving Day so we always celebrate my birthday even though most years they fall on different days. I loved it when I was a teenager because I was exempt from having to help clean up dinner!
ReplyDeleteThe Thanksgiving that my mother had just been operated on for cancer of ovaries, we still went to her house. I made the cornbread for dressing and made it at her house. I carried pumpkin pies and pumpkin bread and chocolate pound cake. We arrived on Wednesday and I got up on Thanksgiving and made the whole dinner. She did nothing, which was the point. My husband nor any of my children were allowed to spend the night there. They had to spend the night at my sister's house about a mile away. My sister's daughter who mostly lived with my mother was not allowed to stay there, either. It sure was peaceful!
ReplyDeleteWe will travel about an hour to my mom's house to spend the day with her on Saturday and then everyone will travel to my house on Thursday.

This year I want to practice being thankful - I am so blessed. A wonderful daughter, solid son-in-law and 2 beautiful granddaughters, a son that has turned his life around 180 degrees and is doing amazingly well, and a friend who has become so much more over the past year. Life has been rough the last few years but thanks to God and good people I am blessed!
ReplyDeleteI'm cooking this morning to go to my mom's Thanksgiving celebration. I'm bringing green beans, grape salad, and pineapple casserole.
ReplyDeleteclarksrfun at gmail dot com
For me Thanksgiving dinner is all about the side dishes. The turkey...meh, I could do without.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving!!

Well, I have said about all I can say about this Thanksgiving is it is in the works. One year, my son must have been about 18 months when we went to Mama's for Thanksgiving and he was lost. We could not find him. So, people started looking outdoors. We were sure he did not go out, but panic set in. Finally, I found him in Mama's pantry. He had bananas running out of his mouth, down his clothes and onto the floor. He was gorging on bananas in secret before we caught him. We had never forbidden him to eat a banana or had done anything that could explain his eating so much. I was just grateful to find him.
ReplyDeleteMy son is coming home for the first time since Jan. 2020! I am thankful that both of my sons will be here this year!
ReplyDeleteWell, today is the day when I have to start cooking and cleaning in earnest. After church it will all begin :)
ReplyDeleteI have revised my menu about twice a day for the last few days. I broke down and decided we would have pie crusts instead of having pumpkin pie without crust. So, today I went out and bought two crusts. If we want more pumpkin pie, it will be in a casserole.
ReplyDeleteI spent a memorable Thanksgiving I ever had was at a friend's house. She had the turkey in the oven when I arrived at her appointed time. Then, every thirty minutes she opened the oven to baste the turkey. She kept the door open for about 15 minutes while she talked instead of basting. I was starving when four hours later, she took the turkey out. Then, I found out they did not like cranberry sauce and something else I deem absolutely necessary. Her husband was not too hungry, just drunk. I could have brought the missing food, but she refused to let me help.
ReplyDeleteToday will be a cleaning day. My 15 year old will be cleaning baseboards. He is so excited.
ReplyDeleteI am hoping for a really good piece of pecan pie on Thanksgiving day and to get to sleep in!! Celebrating the holidays once you are older and don't have kids in the house is sure different. I am thankful that they will be coming home later in the week so I'll get plenty of granddaughter time too.
ReplyDeleteHubby came home from work and said "Your Aunt Shirley sent her pie crusts" First My Aunt Shirley lives 3 hrs away and she in not going to send me pie crusts. He has stopped at the store for milk and found Pillsbury pie crusts on sale for $1. He checked the dates... for next year so he bought 6 of them. I had forgot we have cracked the joke about Daddy thinking Aunt Shirley had the best pie crusts. SO I finally asked her for the recipe .. it was Pillsbury LOL
ReplyDeleteI bought the turkey for my dad and had it in his fridge, when I went over to take him to the doctor he had the Comfort Keeper cooking it. I don't know if he thought today was Thanksgiving or what! Oh well, he is 95 and a WW11 vet so he can have his turkey whenever he wants it!
ReplyDeleteSo much to do before the kids get here late afternoon on Thursday. Housework, laundry, cooking, hiding the Christmas presents that I haven't gotten wrapped! I am looking forward to a wonderful weekend!
