Last week saw 4 nights of home cooked dinners, 3 nights of leftovers/FFY, and 0 night of Take-Out(for dinner, 1 Take-Out for lunch).
I used the leftover asparagus from last week and put it into the Risotto.
The Teriyaki was a disaster. I made it a couple of weeks ago and it was marvelous but I added too much teriyaki sauce this time and it was so salty I couldn't eat it(and didn't want to eat it). I've just become so sensitive to salt in the last 8 years. There are things I just can't eat anymore(mostly fast food and junk foods)due to the sodium/salt taste that is overpowering.

1 trip to Weis(PMITA)Markets by Hubs this past week & a run into Malacari's for produce and lunch meat brought spending to $65.34 and brings my April Total spending on food so far to $88.00.
The spending would have been less but I had Hubs pie a $7 Key Lime Pie for Easter dessert(but he's the only one who ate any).
I've earned $6.20 in Ibotta rebates in April so far(mostly at Rite-Aid on allergy meds).

My savings percentage last week was 40.5%(without Rite-Aid trips)and April's monthly savings total comes in at 33.71% so far(w/out R-A). Getting a free ham at Weis with my points and a few items were on sale so that helped bring the savings rate out of the 0% toilet it was in during Week 1.
I have 17 more food shopping/spending days in April.

What needs buying for this menu?
Some milk and OJ are needed this week, not necessarily for dinners. And I want strawberries but Weis was out when I sent Hubs there. Weis now has sales ads again and they were BOGO there but they either hadn't arrived yet on the truck or were cleaned out of them already. boohoo
I'll go into the restaurant supply store this Wednesday when I drive Hubs to his eye doc appointment since I can't go into the doc's office and it's nearby. I'll see what veg/etc. is a good deal there.

What is getting fixed and served at your house this week?
Was last week's plan successful, did you go off plan or did you not even plan what was going to be eaten last week?
Any great deals on food at your stores this week?
Our plan was zero takeout.....hubby is going through a rebellious stage to the semi-lockdown right now so I caved and we got takeout McDonalds. Other than that we just used what we had and I pushed not going to the store for veggies 2 further days that I thought I could. I filled the freezer up so much last month that this month is more maintenance groceries. We had homemade ribs and potato salad Saturday and took Mom a bunch for 2 meals for her as well for our Easter meal. I love potato salad but the prep work takes so bloody long!
ReplyDeleteAbout the recipe--any Margaret Holmes canned food is so salty I cannot stand it. I can see the seasoning in it being enough for a big pot of soup. I don't use salt in many things, relying on other seasonings for the taste. I noticed some fast food is incredibly salty lately.
ReplyDeleteI planned potato salad yesterday, but in the end decided it was too labor intensive, but that was okay, we had plenty.
I don't even know what is on sale at our local stores. Bill has been doing our grocery shopping and I don't even ask for the receipt. I give him a list but tell him to substitute if there is something that is out of stock or if he sees something he wants me to cook he can get that. It is what it is. I feel like all I do all day is feed kids, clean up after kids, and feed them more.... LOL This week we are having clam strips tonight, tacos tomorrow, pot roast on Wednesday, pick your soup from the many cans of soup I have in my pantry on Thursday, pizza grilled cheese on Friday, and alfredo pasta on Saturday. At least that is the plan that I wrote on the menu board. LOL
ReplyDeleteSince I do not salt things much but expect people to salt after they taste, I have noticed that restaurants are way too salty. I stopped salting years ago becasue of Hubs high blood pressure.
ReplyDeleteOf course I went off plan. I would never make a plan if I could not go off of it!
ReplyDeleteHi Denise,
ReplyDeleteJust checking back again to see if you would be willing to post the recipe for your husband's birthday cake ... it sounded delicious and unusual! Thanks Bonnie
It was the maple brown sugar cinnamon cake with maple frosting.
ReplyDeleteBonnie
Sorry Bonnie, it was a boxed cake mix, Pillsbury I think, a seasonal flavor from last Fall. The frosting was also premade from a can.
