The most important thing to me is my family and celebrating the birth of Jesus and going to midnight mass. I could do without the gifts and decorating but having time with my kids and grandchildren are the best.

This year my 5 year old grand daughter helped me decorate my tree. I enjoyed watching her unwrap the ornaments. I hope to make this a yearly tradition.
ReplyDeleteMary G
Christmas begins with lots of lively christmas music and cookie marathon baking!!!
ReplyDeletecskies1@yahoo.dot.com
I’m currently working on a holiday committee and my charity suggestion actually won! We’re collecting supplies and donations for the local animal shelter. Never thought that stood a chance against the homeless shelters, etc but people are really excited about it.
ReplyDeleteJen G.
I am not getting sappy with traditions, but I make a killer praline fudge every year for Christmas brunch.
ReplyDeleteThis year, we will be able to celebrate with extended family we haven't been able to celebrate with in several years.

ReplyDeleteWe are having fun decorating our new house. Using all our old decorations in a new way!
ReplyDeleteBonnie
What a fantastic giveaway. My favorite holiday traditions are decorating the house and making candy with my kids. The thing I need eat during my holiday dinner is homemade cranberry sauce. It just doesn't seem to be a complete dinner without it. I'm also partial to creamed pearl onions. Yum

Baking cookies with my family for the holidays is something I look forward to all year!
ReplyDeleteFarmgirl33@ymail.com
Our Christmas tree goes up the day after Thanksgiving and stays until January 6th.....it is a prelit one now days and each year we add a new "heart" shaped ornament to the decorations on it. I like to turn the tree on all day and on Christmas eve we leave it on all night too!

Favorite Christmas tradition is driving around too see christmas lights with the kids.
ReplyDeleteMary L. (maryjanedobson@yahoo.com)
I like to try dessert recipes around the holidays as I had extra time. Now that I'm retired, I may try several cookie, etc. recipes.
ReplyDeletePicking out great sayings to write on stocking stuffers. Jill C at jcorlette@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteWe are blessed even though we live a frugal lifestyle. This year our Church is adopting the elementary school across the street. It is in one of the poor neighborhoods and they were worried about kids having enough to eat while on Christmas break. We adopted a box and the list is very extensive. Boxes will be given to the parents. Then a donation came in for 1000.00 to help out so the 20 boxes that were adopted plus the 1000.00 should feed every family in the school that wants a box! Whoo hoo!
ReplyDeletecrystalhankey@yahoo.com
Love driving around looking at the lights, and enjoying the ones my husbands puts up and adds to every year.
ReplyDeleteMary G
I love going to the Christmas Eve service to sing carols and everyone gets a small candle while we sing the last "Silent Night". Teddie
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a child the Christmas tree, getting it, decorating it was a big thing. I don’t get a big tree anymore, but I like remembering that.
ReplyDeleteToday's entry: looking forward to a nice Christmas eve with all of my kids and some plus ones.
ReplyDeleteWe have so many Christmas stockings to hang (remarried) that we have to take pictures off the wall and stretch 2 ropes across to hold our ever expanding family....it now holds 28 stockings ...dh and mine, 7 adults children with 5 spouses and 14 grandkids so far!! Stockings hold small edible treats instead of toys and books now days!!
ReplyDeleteI like seeing all the lights up at the houses. Some of them are incredibly beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love going to look at Christmas lights.
ReplyDeleteMarie
mgaltier(at)yahoo(dotcom)
Christmas at our house is more about traditions than lots of gifts. Gifts tend to be practical or funny. We have a meal together- easy on Christmas Day. Finger foods or soup and sandwiches or potato bar. We always drive around at least one night before Christmas to see the lights and go to some type of Christmas Eve service even if our small Church doesn't have one that year we find a Church to visit.
ReplyDeleteMy lasagna and cinnamon roll comment from yesterday didn’t post but thought of another one. Nice thing I’ve done - shared Sluggy’s blog is with some coworkers and one of them actually won a giveaway!
ReplyDeleteProbably no longer need to add Jen G since google is adding my name.
I am most looking forward to seeing our grown sons and one son's fiancée and 2 Texas grandsons over the holiday, Teddie
ReplyDeleteWe live on 5 acres out in the middle of the prairie on a dirt road....and yet we decorate the big fir tree in front of our house along that road with strings of colored flashing lights each year....having to take a long pole to even get some of the lights high enough to reach most of the way up the tree....and we place a white wooden nativity set that my dad made years ago along side the tree. I hope the deer and coyotes enjoy it as much as we do!! :)
ReplyDeleteToday I'm looking forward to watching the Charlie Brown Christmas special
ReplyDeleteMarie
mgaltier(at)yahoo(dotcom)
I enjoy listening to Christmas music on the radio going to and from work each year.
ReplyDeleteMary G
My favorite holiday tradition is the holiday dinner.
ReplyDeleteI have a bit of sewing to do (2 simple projects) to finish my gifts off. No one around here is chomping at the bit to get the tree up, me thinks it may be time to move to a 4 foot tall one on the side board and call it quits,
ReplyDeletePeppermint Bark - I used to make hundreds of bags of it every year for The Magic of Santa craft fair. Now I just make it for friends and family. It looks so expensive when packaged nicely. But really easy and frugal to make. Thanks for the awesome giveaways. You Rock! Crystalhankey@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteThere are so many cookies and candies that come to mind with the Christmas holidays....and I like them all!! I will always remember my grandmother making sturdy cut out sugar cookie reindeer and angels to hang on the real fresh cut tree from the pasture at Christmas time with lighted candles too....I would always steal a bite of one or two hanging cookie ornaments...she never did say anything if and when she found the cookies missing a bite out of them.
ReplyDeleteWe make little Norwegian donuts every year at Christmas. My dad has done it his whole life and we keep the tradition going. I love driving around looking at all of the lights and listening to all the wonderful music.
ReplyDeleteAll the wonderful Holiday cookies - that’s another thing I love about this time of year!
ReplyDeleteTonight we're going to a Chrstmas play with some friends.
ReplyDeleteMarie
mgaltier(at)yahoo(dotcom)
To make the holidays complete, l have to make decorated cookies.
ReplyDeleteThis is the only time a year I bake cookies. Going to make spritz cookies very soon.
ReplyDeleteMary G
I Love the twinkling lights everywhere... so cozy!
ReplyDeleteBonnie
I tended to a bunch of lurking mini projects today, including a pantry inventory in the kitchen, to identify any lurkers and "less desireable" foods to actively cull. I have plenty of ingredients for a few batches of cookies this year, downsizing from what I made last year I think, it's all good, however
ReplyDeleteI make a lot of different dishes for Christmas that we only have then so everyone looks forward to them. My favorite is artichokes, I think I am going to try them in my Instant Pot this year.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Christmas CD is John Denver and the Muppets. My kids loved it when they were little and I still have a copy of it that I play every year!
ReplyDeleteCrystalhankey@yahoo.com
We are big fans of candy canes at our house and we include then as decorations on our Christmas tree. We enjoy seeing the grandkids grab one to enjoy as they move around the tree....we always replenish the stock once they have come and gone so the tree never runs out of candy canes to share.
ReplyDeleteTime to try some new cookie recipes to see how the cookie critics ~ hubby and grandson like. Of course, I will make some of the old standbys too. Will freeze some to take to Texas for visiting with family and friends. Teddie
ReplyDeleteThe most important thing about Christmas to me is spending time with my family. They mean so much to me, and I can't think of anything I would rather do than be with them!
ReplyDeleteJoanna

Something I’ve done for someone this year...recently I helped a young man with his college application. Helping him formulate his wishes and dreams for his future made me wonder why I hadn’t done that kind of thing before now. There is the future!
ReplyDeleteI went to a wreath-making party today.

I love giving white elephant gifts. Our Bunco group meets this Wed. and it will be potluck and white elephant! Looking forward to it. Helped pack food boxes at the Church today for the grade school. Chaos but had fun doing it with everyone. Take care.
ReplyDeleteCrystalhankey@yahoo.com
looking foward to some classic xmas films
ReplyDeleteAnother favorite thing is all the sentimental ornaments from years gone by. Lots of happy memories!
ReplyDeleteBonnie
We celebrate Christmas and our tradition is to have Christmas eve at our house. We always make a leg of lamb and I usually make my Great Grandmothers cream puff and homeade custard recipe.
ReplyDeleteChristmas caroling seems to be a thing from the past....we did it when I was younger but it was a church group in a small community....we even sang "O Christmas Tree" in German as we walked from door to door. I was caroled when my own kids were little and we lived in town ourselves...it was hard to stand on the porch in the cold and listen to them sing 4 verses of a Christmas song...and I have always wondered how well it was received when I used to be one of the carolers!!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite traditions is to take advantage of the multiple Christmas Concerts available. Beautiful to listen to!
ReplyDeleteBonnie
I'm trying to finish up my Christmas shopping this week.
ReplyDeleteMarie
mgaltier(at)yahoo(dotcom)
Looking forward to watching our favorite Christmas movies over the next couple of weeks.
ReplyDeleteMary G
My Christmas shopping is DONE! Now ~ the wrapping ~UGH. We use Christmas bags and tissue paper. Easy, frugal, and reusable. We use the tissue paper to wrap and pack away tree decorations.
ReplyDeleteStill trying to finish up the last bit of shopping that I need to do, and then I can start wrapping!
ReplyDeleteJoanna M.
joannamattas@yahoo.com
Almost done Christmas shopping and need to start wrapping, as I don't want to do it at the last minute.
ReplyDeleteChristmas wrapping.....I hate it and you can tell by the way I wrap and tape presents.....and then there is my son who uses his old calendars as wrapping paper and duct tape...those Christmas bags are the way to go for me now days!! Although I do admire beautifully wrapped boxes with ribbons and bows I can never achieve that level of presentation. It all goes into the same trash can once the present is opened anyway unless it is special enough (and not all torn) to save until next year.
ReplyDeleteI'm wrapping Christmas presents tonight. I love doing that. :-)

Pretty Christmas dishes are another favorite!
ReplyDeleteBonnie
This year, Christmas means that we are together and we have survived with each other. This year we are focusing on being a family and love.
ReplyDeleteOh my went out today and snow is melted except in the hills and mountains around us. But it is Sooooo cold! Guess winter is here. Wonder if we will have a white Christmas. Can you believe it is only 2 more weeks until Christmas Day! Oh my. Better get a few things done.
ReplyDeleteI hope this goes through - having problems replying on some blogs
ReplyDeleteSue Lasker - ibesue123@gmail.com
I found a simple sandwich Cookie recipe this year. It may become a tradition.
ReplyDeleteI love having time off during the holidays. Food- it is ALL about the food. Shrimp, fondue, homemade goodies!
ReplyDeleteFinalizing my menus for Xmas eve and Xmas day
ReplyDeleteI made 2 new "cheater" cookie recipes and both were a hit. "Cheater recipes" are using box mixes, not made from "scratch." One is a brownie box mix cookie with crushed peppermint on top and the other is a lemon cake box mix with cool whip. Yum Teddie
ReplyDeleteMy dad made fudge every year for Christmas. I can remember him standing at the stove stirring away. He used the water method to check for doneness, dropping a little into a cup of water and checking firmness of fudge. I've never been able to duplicate his fudge. This is the second Christmas without him and miss him.
ReplyDeleteI love the family time at Christmas. I’m blessed this year to be off on the same break as my kids and husband. We love looking at Christmas lights and watching Christmas movies. Tebble. tebblestearns@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteNeed to get a few more food items and maybe find some new recipes for Christmas. I've been shopping the sales and storing some food items to spread out the grocery costs. I still need to pick up the ham.

I don’t have a huge list of people to shop for and I try to choose each gift carefully. Some people prefer “experience” gifts over things, which can be fun...as long as you can think of something... I can’t always :-(
