This Week on the Dining Table

The "Birthday Week is Over" Edition--

Well another birthday has come and gone.  The roses Hubs gave me are dead and composed.  We still haven't found the time to go out to eat together as everyone is on a different schedule.  We may need to just go and leave someone out.

Here is Chester from last Sunday.  He has removed the fleece blanket from his crate and created a "porch" for himself.  He's chewing on a rawhide stick and using his pink piggy toy as a "table" to hold it. lolz

Moving On....

Onward to the meal planning!

1. Sunday--Tempura Shrimp, Sweet Potato Fries
2. Monday--Beef Shepherd's Pie(my version w/Cornbread not Mashed Taters on top)
3. Tuesday--Birthday Dinner Out?
4. Wednesday--leftover Ham Slices, leftover sides
5. Thursday--Hungarian Goulash, Rice
6. Friday--Tuna Noodle Casserole
7. Saturday--Leftovers

And this is what actually happened--
1. Sunday--Tempura Shrimp, Sweet Potato Fries
2. Monday--Beef Shepherd's Pie(my version w/Cornbread not Mashed Taters on top)
3. Tuesday--Leftovers
4. Wednesday--leftover Ham Slices, leftover sides
5. Thursday--Hungarian Goulash, Egg Noodles
6. Friday--Leftovers
7. Saturday--Steak, Pear Gorgonzola Salad

Last week saw 4 nights of home cooked dinners, 3 nights of leftovers/fend for yourself, 0 night of take-out and 0 night of Eating out.  Mostly everything happened but not when planned always.  We ate lots of leftovers so the Tuna Casserole didn't happen....that goes onto this week's menu.  I used up all the peppers in the freezer on the Goulash.  I found discounted Steaks on Wed. so Hubs and I had a special Sat. dinner alone. ;-)

2 Trips to Weis, 1 trip to the Bread Outlet and 1 trip to Big Lots(that one blew up my plans by having their 20% everything in the store sale last Sunday) brought the shopping last week to $137.95 for all.  That brought January's food spending total to $452.69.  Ouch
There are 2 days left in my shopping month which means I am done spending for January.

My savings percentages last week was 53.40% and the monthly savings so far ends up at 53.86%(without Rite-Aid trips added in).

Leftovers going into this week....... goulash, egg noodles and ham.  Not much leftover here.

Here is this week's "food plan".....

1. Sunday--Take-Out(Hubs and I only)
2. Monday--leftover Goulash, Harvard Beets
3. Tuesday--Tuna Noodle Casserole, Salad or Beets
4. Wednesday--Ham & Cheese Quiche, Brussels Sprouts
5. Thursday--Tacos
6. Friday--Ham & Cheese Omlettes
7. Saturday--Leftovers

This week will see 4 new meals cooked, 2 nights of leftovers, 1 night of Take-out/Eat-Out.

The only thing I need to buy to make these meals is pie crust or I'll use Bisquick and make a "crustless" quiche.

What is getting fixed and served at your house this week?

Was last week's plan successful, did you go off plan or did you not even plan what was going to be eaten last week?

Any great deals on food at your stores this week?

  1. Deals at the grocery store have been pretty close to none. I did grab 4 dozen eggs, after sale + cpns, Egglands were 99 out the door. That's all I bought there. Dinner plans have been a bit fluid, depending upon the kid's schedules and who is home for dinner, which can lead to too many leftovers (and I tend to have that for my at home lunch). Your Sheppard's pie with corn bread sounds more like a corn bread pone. Very New England.

    1. Sorry the whole fam has not been able to go out to celebrate your birthday yet. Leave both offspring at home and just the two of you go. Way cheaper!
There were no great grocery deals here this week, so we are mainly eating food I had in the freezer.

  2. I haven't a clue about deals this week. I am just trying to keep my overall spending low while still having good and well balanced meals on the table. That is enough challenge. In February, I'm going back on the no simple carb eating plan for myself, so that will be a game changer with shopping since so much of my meal planning focuses on rice, pasta, and potatoes.

  3. Our meal plan went as planned. I’m still surprised at how long leftovers last with just two of us. This week sees me thawing pork chops and making zucchini fritters. If you count the eggs for an omelette that is just about all I have to cook this week. I am not complaining! Soups and chili are the two gifts that keep on giving!
No great deals in my neighborhood, as usual.

  4. Yesterday I grilled out since the weather was decent. Today we ate out from a few different places since I had some coupons ready to expire. Chicken noodle soup tomorrow, with leftovers. Spaghetti and meatballs, sloppy joes and loaded baked potatoes to round out the week, with lots veggies on the side. Trying to be kinda healthy.

  5. Dinner today was turkey breast roast, cole slaw, and butternut squash. The sales are always slim at the end of the month and sometimes the first of the month, depending on when the month starts, what day of the week. Stores are waiting for customers to get their ss checks. Some states get Snap the first day of the month. Once in a while, I will find a deal around the end/first of the month. A little later in the month but before the mid month, I find there are much better sales and deals.

  6. Deals... chicken at Sprouts (didn't pick up any) but that was it. In fact, I really didn't go shopping. I have enough to make meals, but I also have to make stuff for lunches. I have a jar of homemade sauce to use up this week. I have a crate of eggs, smoked sausage, hot dogs, a small chicken breast, and some left over roast beef and of course veggies. I cook and then freeze meals, so I am pretty stocked up. I just need to get some Parmesan cheese for the pasta and maybe some lettuce to make a salad to go with it.
