Finally getting a chance to do a frugal update.
Here's what we did Frugal last week.
* We didn't do any Eating-out or Take-out.
* I used up leftovers and foods we already had at home to meal plan.
* Did laundry during off-peak rates.
* Mostly we stayed home and did chores/projects around the house. Sanded and repainted front porch posts, had the driveway seal coated. Proactive maintenance costs less in the long run.
We didn't have anything out of the ordinary or noteworthy the previous week that was frugal beyond the same-old, same-old. No Rite-Aid freebies at all and just a couple grocery store deals.

DeleteI've never lived anywhere where the electricity was cheaper to do things during off peak times/rates. Does it save you much? I got so I was using my dishwasher settings to have it run around midnight, just so it wasn't running during the summer daytime when it was 100 out
ReplyDeleteMakes sense to not have anything that generates heat to run in the heat of the day.
DeleteI don't know how much we save on this on peak/off peak rate because we've been on it since moving here and being customers of this electric service.
The flashy big savings events are always fun, but it's more the day-to-day small boring frugalities that anchor and build the savings.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of proactive maintenance, have y'all looked into finding someone to do the driveway snow shoveling/snow blowing for the upcoming winter? I figure it costs much less than a busted leg.

I did everything on off peak rates when we lived in the Southwest. I had been on regular rates for a few years before we switched. We ended up saving a small fortune. We cooked on our grill outdoors in the daytime or made cold meals. We ran our dishwasher, washing machine, dryer and hot water tank on off peak hours. We took our showers when it was off peak and the water was hot. MM
ReplyDeleteI actually prefer doing most appliance running at night. However, when it is cool/cold, I try to run things that make heat in the daytime and when I am in the house. Since it is just me here, I have done things when I prefer, and I prefer night for many things. I don't mean the middle of the night. But, if I cannot sleep, I might run appliances. I have never lived in any place that had peak and off-peak service. I suppose I can thank TVA for that.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have that option here, but I still watch how much electricity we use. Turning off lights, limiting dryer use, unplugging chargers, etc, all help keep our bill down.
