I decided yesterday that I need to get a food bank donation together. I guess I get that "bug" this time of year. 8-)
So I went to Weis(PMITA)Markets on Friday because in the new sales ad they have Purex laundry detergent for $1.99 a jug and I thought this would be an awesome thing to get to donate at the local food bank.
I perused the sales ad online before going up to the store and gathered some coupons for other items I might want to buy.
Well I came home with a car full of deals....woohoo!
I made one of my videos about the trip and you can view it on my Youtube page HERE.
Let me just say that I used the words, AWESOME and RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE a lot! lolz
I forgot to mention on the video that besides the $4 Rebate the Purex qualified me to receive, I also finished up the $5 Rebate for the "Seasonal Care Package" items(Dial, Scotties, Soft Scrub, etc.).
$9 back in my pocket on this trip!
$77.39 OOP on $164.75 worth of goods.
And .20¢ gas points thrown in.
Anyhow, I've got laundry detergent, shampoo, organic boxed mac and cheese, barbecue sauce, peanut butter and cold cereal so far to donate. In the coming weeks I'll use some of my grocery money to pick up other good deals at the store to add to this lot.
Sluggy
Those are really good deals. I know that buying meat when marked down is not something you can plan. I will be donating to the food bank this week since I have kept a book from the library and it's now overdue. They take food for fines this time of the year.
ReplyDeleteAnybody who saves over 50% on quality products has the right to use the word "awesome" as often as you want! Great shopping. Daughter and I have gone thru closets (esp coat closet) to find good clothing to donate. Still need to donate food, tho. Sure makes a person feel good to help others, and there are plenty who are less fortunate in our country. But for the grace of God, it could be any of us. Have a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteI have a plan. Don't say, oh shit. I hear you. I will send you my grocery money for the month, you shop and then bring it to me. You can also hand deliver the giveaway stuff when I win.
ReplyDeleteYou crack me up
DeleteI always look forward to your YouTube videos!
ReplyDeleteNice way to get the thrill of good deals with the joy of giving!
ReplyDeleteNicely done! Quite often I think those practical items like shampoo and laundry detergent get overlooked at food banks because people, quite logically, think 'food'. I think something like this is the best way to get excited about giving.
ReplyDeleteI used to volunteer some at a local food bank and laundry detergent, toothpaste, and bar soap were some of the most welcome items because EBT cards can't be used for their purchase and all of that is needed daily. Peanut butter, canned tuna and canned meat products were on the top of the wish list. Canned green beans were at the bottom of the wish list because they came in all the time and the green bean area was overflowing.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you mentioned this because I need to get my stuff ready to deliver to the bank next week before they get slammed with Thanksgiving.
I think detergent for the food bank is a great idea. I wouldn't have thought of that either, though I have thought of HBA items.
