Well I am so glad Hubs and #2 Son called off the trip to Richmond, VA they were suppose to take this morning.
They would have been traveling on the PA Turnpike to get there.
Here is a shot of what the Turnpike outside of Philly looked like this morning......
Massive wrecks and closed down in one direction.
There is a no-audio film of some of this mess on Yahoo HERE.
A report from local news station HERE.
More HERE
I've driven on that stretch of turnpike and the folks on there drive like nutballs!
I am always sure someone is going to crash into my ass as they ALL tailgate.
I sure hope nobody lost a loved one in this today.....

Yuck yuck yuck, but not in a laughing sort of way! My worst nightmare - glad your hubs and son stayed away from that cold mess!
ReplyDeleteI really don't understand why people can't just slow down. We have had quite a few accidents as well here in our area. The plows have been out and the roads are passable, just not at 55-65 mph....i always say...i may get there a few minutes behind but at least i will get there in one piece!
ReplyDeleteHubs did his mission in Philly and he remember the National guard dragging semis into town with tanks. The semis contained food for the depleted stores. Quite the winter. I think it was 70 or 71?
ReplyDeleteOh yikes! I've only been in a bad bad traffic like that once coming back from across the bay bridge. I think it took 3-4 hours for a 1hr drive. Yeah, I would never want to do that again if I can avoid it. He got very lucky to avoid all that!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad they stayed home. It looks like there was 0% chance he could have avoided a major delay or wreck.
ReplyDeleteWe came from Indiana to Middle TN. It was nightmare drive in snow and wrecks. We spent 6 hours on a 1 hour drive over a pass or something named Jellico. One guy in particular stands out. He passed us going very fast. About 15 min later, we passed him in the ditch. We had an infant in arms, so it was very scary to me. My ex wanted to drive the speed limit because it was the speed limit! It was a horrid drive in snow and ice.
Oh my goodness!!! I was driving home from KC several years ago. Ok RObb was driving. But we hit a spot where suddenly the rain turned to snow and the wet highway was frozen over. It was like a straight line of suddenly ice. We changed lanes and all of the sudden we were turning (sliding) in slow motion spinning sideways, backwards. I could see straight into the semi's cab and wave (if I'd thought of it) to the semi driver as we slid backwards down the highway in front of him. Then we slid to the left and down the embankment into the ditch. It was the most surreal thing I'd ever experienced... All of this at 60-65 mph. We were able to drive out of the ditch after we changed our pants.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds scary! I might have needed TWO changes of clothes for that one......and new upholstery in the car! lolz
DeleteMy little cousin(ok he is 24) is sitting at the tail end of it. Luckily he hit no one and no one hit him but he has said it its unreal. Almost something out of a movie. But he said many people are going car to car to make sure everyone is safe and he has two little kids(not his) and their father in his car right now because the fathers car ran out of gas. Supposedly it is starting to move finally now at 4:30.
ReplyDeleteGlad he's ok. I had visions of the V-day storm of 2007 with this one. Geez!
DeleteI heard lots of injuries, no deaths. What a clusterf^ck! It's the same around here, I call it the NASCAR mentality. Tailgate, no signals, hell, people around here drive at night with no lights on! And then you have the idiot truck drivers. Our Interstate fun yesterday was a crane on a lowboy that hit an overpass, knocking a large piece of the crane onto the car behind it (which was probably too close, but whatever). Luckily, the driver of the car only had minor injuries.
ReplyDeleteOh, and why were hubs and son headed to my neck of the woods with NO NOTICE to me?!?! HAHAHAHAHA
Peace <3
Jay
Mea culpa Jay......the kid had an audition at VCU. I hope you approve. ;-)
DeleteHAHAHA! Very cool! Good luck to him!

Winter is nature's way of telling everything to sit still and not move.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if that pile-up was going to affect you are not. I'm glad they stayed off the road!
