  1. You know I make tons of cookies for all the holidays but I have to say my fav cookie is just plain old oatmeal. I could eat tons of them.

  2. I adore those little cookies that are rolled in powdered sugar. Some times they are called wedding cookies or pecan sandies. I usually roll them in little fingers. Why that shape???? Because that is how my mother made them!

  3. Pumpkin was my whole family's favorite pie for both holidays. Or, maybe it was mine. My mother did not make cookies after I got old enough to make them. Besides, we would rather she make fudge with pecans on top. Sluggy, do you remember sending me a fudge recipe? It must have been about seven years ago. Mama also made for Christmas a white cake with white seven-minute frosting with white coconut all over it. It was a work of art.

I had Mama get a cookie gun, you know what I mean, but I forgot the name of it. I loved to make those only because of the shapes. Pressed cookies? Something like that.

  4. Pumpkin is my favorite pie.

Favorite cookies are peanut butter kiss cookies. I put my Hersheys Kisses on the cookies before baking them. Yum!

  5. We aren't a fan of pumpkin so Apple Pie or Pecan Pie for us. Our favorite cookie is snickerdoodle.

  6. Our family favorites are pumpkin and a Apple pie with the crumb topping.

  7. Okay, I thought that was the last day. One of my favorite pies is mince meat. I usually can eat the whole thing since no one else likes it.

  8. Entry for the day....I think I will be making a pumpkin cheesecake for Thanksgiving. I have never made one or tasted one, but Hubby asked about having one and I aim to please. :-)

  9. I'm with Linda ...Mince meat is very underrated. See's candy usually has a seasonal mincemeat candy....I adore it! I mean what is not to like? A filling of raisins, chopped apple, dates and rum covered in dark chocolate ! Seriously .... what is not to like? The people who say that they don't care for mincemeat probably have never even tried it! Same goes for all those fruitcake haters. Yes, some fruitcakes could serve as door stops but a good fruitcake is a thing of beauty!

Have you ever read Truman Capote's Christmas Memory? If you haven't I encourage you to seek it out.. It makes you love the very idea of fruitcake!

  10. Aquafresh is one of my favorite toothpastes, mostly for the flavor, ha.

For cakes, umm... back when I was really young, my mother used to make cakes to sell, and she'd make a pineapple upside-down cake. Best stuff ever, though she hasn't made it in over 15 years. We've never been a cookie family, so no go there. I do like snicker doodle cookies, even if they come more closer to Christmas than Thanksgiving.

  11. MMMM.....I love a good fruitcake. I send my parents one from Collin Street Bakery here in Texas. It is the best. I used to send one to my MIL so I could have some, but she didn't want it anymore. Maybe I will just get one for me.

Janet, I did not know See's made mincemeat, probably a seasonal treat. See's raspberry dark chocolate is soooo good.

Today, is my brother's birthday. He would have been 66 today. He wanted nothing to do with anything except cherry pie. I hate cherry pie, but that is what he wanted instead of a birthday cake. Mama made one for Thanksgiving and one for Christmas because he loved it so.

My favorite cake is one I bake--Chocolate Pound Cake. Daddy did not like cake, but decided he like this one I started bringing to their house for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Daddy told Mama to call me and tell me not to forget to bring one. I brought two. It is best about the fourth day after baking. That makes it really a good choice to make early and get out of the way. The last few years I have made lemon curd for people to put on it if they want to.
