I Be A Netflix Junkie

Well, I have decided that a Netflix Account is a giant suckhole of time, much in the same way being online can be a giant suckhole of time.
Would I rather watch films than clean the house, sew my projects or cook?
Yep!

Just call me your friendly neighborhood Netflix 'Ho....

But I can say I DID get my money's worth of show viewing in March with my new Netflix account.  Many things I want to watch are NOT available under their instant play feature that streams on your computer, so I have to wait for a dvd to show up in the mail, watch it quickly and return it the next day.  I was able to squeeze 7 whole dvd mail/view/return cycles into a month.  Not very satisfying for me but as long as there is still stuff I want to watch instantly to fill in the voids of time when I don't have a new dvd to watch, this will work out.

I'd love everyone's suggestions on what to watch, so if you have some favorite movies or tv shows, let me hear it!!

I started watching old tv shows from my past but this is turning out to be not such a good idea.  I seem to remember them fondly but when I look at some of them with a new, older, more sophisticated eye, they don't stack up.  Case in point, "Soap".  I remember the few episodes I saw 'back in the day-1970something' as funny.  I tried to watch it again and it's just horrible! ACK!!!
And that one called "Trailer Park Boys"?  Don't even bother....  It's a Canadian tv comedy series.  It's suppose to be funny.  It's the former but not the latter.....and there are a bazillion epidsodes.  It's a time waster and it will eat a piece of your brain out too. ;-)

Some films/shows that surprised me pleasantly....
No Impact Man--Before he started his year of living no-impact, he had joined the Compact list that I have been a member of for 5+ years now.  Basically, he joined to get us to follow his blog and to advertise his film adventure, so that left a bad taste in my mouth toward him.  I finally broke down and watched his docudrama and I enjoyed it.  Not because of him, but because of his wife.  SHE is the star of that film and she should get a medal for putting up with him.lolol

Another surprise was being able to sit through an entire Michael Moore film.  The man has serious problems and I share no piece of his view of the world, but I enjoyed most of Capitalism:A Love Story....as long as I detached myself from the maudlin sentimentality and his crazy as a loon philosophies.lol

Films I would recommend.....Noise, Being John Malkovich, The Big Lebowski and Botany of Desire.  And only 1 of them is a documentary.... 8-)

Here is the list of what I've watched this month, with my recommendations(1-5 stars).  My tastes tend toward  Documentaries, Comedies, Older Movies/Shows, Indie Films, etc.

  1. For me to sit down and watch TV or a movie alone is almost like pulling teeth (well, with less pain). I have to be ill and couch-ridden before I'll sit still that long.

That said, I do like to watch a movie and certain TV shows with Shane. Our taste usually reside in the offbeat indie films and HBO or Showtime TV series. I made a list for another friend; I'll email it to you sometimes soon.

  2. After I finished The Little House on the Prairie series, I started on The Waltons. I watched a season of Bonanza and thought it was gross now. However, I will watch it as long as Pernell Roberts shows up...sigh. I got all these at the library. Anything else I watch is on hulu.I did not know that about No Impact Man.

  3. I don't watch a lot of tv but we have been watching Enterprise. I don't know what we are going to do when we go through the entire series. Hmmmmmm, I guess by more.

  4. I love this new part of your blog. I hope you make a list every month. The next time you make a list can you show if its streaming or dvd or both?

We started to watch No Impact Man last night because it was streaming. We cant stant Colin either. Anyways we are an hour into the movie and both of them have cheated. Him riding the train and her with the ice at work and for the cooler.

  5. I used to be on Netflix and was a ho' too... Since I work at home, I'd pop a movie in over lunch, watch part and then watch the rest the next day over lunch. I have to watch things in installments...
I've only seen 3 on your list! Men who stare, 3rd Rock & Big Bang. We tivo a lot now... Or use Redbox.
Something I would recommend is North & South of course! I used to rent that from Netflix once a year. My daughters and I LOVE Ory(Patrick Swayze) & Madeline... My best friend loves it too, so as soon as I got done with one dvd, I'd let her watch it before returning for the next one in the series. BUT don't get North & South book 2. Totally not worth it...
Check out the 1st few seasons of Chuck, Castle, In Plain Sight, to name a few.

  6. I think the last time I rented a movie, it was... Inception. I actually enjoyed it in spite of not really having a clue from the trailers what I was in for. I've been contemplating getting the Netflix $7.99/streaming thing, but then I hear mixed reviews about whether there'll be stuff I'm interested in... I guess I could just do the free trial for a month and cancel if I don't like it.

I really enjoyed the Men Who Stare at Goats strictly because of the Ewan McGregor-Star Wars connection. And actually it was one of the few times I've really enjoyed George Clooney, too.

  7. AnnieJ--Looking forward to your list....

    PracticalP--Pernell Roberts, eh?Hmmmm

April--Thanks for liking my time wasting addiction.lolol I'll try to keep track each month and report in. I've added DVD or Streaming to the list on the post too for you.
I didn't care for Colin because of his joining the Compact group under false pretenses thing. I really didn't get too upset when his wife "cheated" since she was a victim in all this. I felt bad too because she wanted a 2nd kid and he didn't...that's an old couples issue but it felt like he was using this no-impact thing/being green to get out of having another kid, even though it was her deepest desire.

McVal--I remember watching N&S on tv when it was new....I am old....thanks for reminding me.lol I'll have to check out Castle and In Plain Sight. I might try to watch Twin Peeks since I never saw it back in the day.

Pretty--I loved Inception!! Saw it in the theater last summer with #2 son and crew.
I opted for the $9.99 1 dvd out/streaming price. Most of what I want to see is on DVD so the streaming only doesn't work for me. Streaming works if mostly what you want to see is old stuff and tv shows.
Ewan McGregor huh? I wouldn't throw him out of bed for eating crackers...lol
