It is unfortunate that the contributors keep memorials as trophies for competition. Some of them have 100,000 or more memorials. There is no way they can manage them all and when you ask for someone in your family line they say "no, I follow guidelines". Well guidelines say you have to transfer certain memorials, the rest you can transfer if you want you're not prohibited from transferring anything. yet still they hide behind the guidelines to say no.

How often does a contributor (someone who only has a pic of a headstone and knows nothing about the person) tie your aunt to her 11 siblings, her parents, her husband and her children? Not often. I can do that. Plus I have family photos of the deceased.

It's gotten so bad that I've quit sending suggestions. The contributors can do the genealogy work themselves if they want to (they don't). One lady had my aunt and her husband in the same cemetery but had not made the connection to link them........

FAG is broken. It's really sad. As a contributor (graver) f you are not more closely related you should be required to transfer. Stop the competition. Stop holding our relatives memorials as trophies. One such contributor/graver said she was addicted to FAG and would not transfer my niece because she didn't have to. She could connect her to anyone, didn't know her middle name. Nothing.

Sick and sad.djhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17213789309425836493noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1611711622146875201.post-72739154909179287562018-01-23T19:47:11.580-05:002018-01-23T19:47:11.580-05:00I just can't understand why fag allows the hoa...I just can't understand why fag allows the hoarders to put in memorials for people who are not in the ground yet. It was never "for genealogical purposes". It still isn't. It is to record grave locations, period. The founder of FAG, Jim Tiption, wasn't interested in genealogy and, until the sale to Ancestry, didn't see it as "a genealogy site". My recommendation to all users is to understand the purpose of the site and accept it for what it IS rather than what they think it should be.
That being said, you CAN get the names/dates/locations corrected and transfers of "in guideline" relatives. Go to FAG and click on the "Help with Find A Grave" link found in the menu on the left of every memorial. These FAQs contain the answer to nearly every question you could possibly have about the site and how to use it. If you cannot find your answers there, try the Discussion Forums > General Help with FAG.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1611711622146875201.post-43169814341344695032015-02-05T12:37:13.840-05:002015-02-05T12:37:13.840-05:00Wow! Most folks who create the memorials will turn them over to family members but some won't. There are also organizations that HOLD onto memorials. I came across one of those when I found a Virginian ancestor who died as a POW during the war of Northern Aggression outside of Columbus, Ohio. The Martha Reid Chapter(FLA chapter) of the UDC "owns" him on FAG. Not being a direct ancestor they won't transfer him to me as he is a ggg uncle.slugmamahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12728856166374248591noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1611711622146875201.post-66071946848901303612015-02-04T15:28:34.509-05:002015-02-04T15:28:34.509-05:00I had to go to Wikipedia to understand what this w...I had to go to Wikipedia to understand what this was all about.
