There is a limit of ONE ENTRY PER PERSON PER DAY for this Giveaway.  Come back every day and enter though!

In order to enter you must comment with stuff like---if you are a fan of Halloween or not, your favorite costume as a child, if your costumes were homemade or store bought, the worst/grossest Halloween costume you ever saw, the best candy to get and/or the worst candy to get when trick or treating, if you still enjoy eating candy and have your tastes changed since you were a kid, etc.  Or what item(s) you most want to win is always a popular entry comment.
Stuff like that.

I'll leave this giveaway open until Friday, October 18th at 11:59 pm Eastern Daylight Savings Time. On October 19th, Saturday, I'll draw the winning entry.

*Please note these rules*
I'll post the name/ID of the winner on this blog on  and that person has 48 hours from the time stamp on that post to contact me privately via email(my email addy is listed on my "About Me" page, as well as on my side bar).

If I am not contacted via email, I'll attempt to contact the winner via the email they supplied with their entry(or gave me to add to the Giveaway Data Base)and if that email is not responded to within another 48 hours I'll pick another winner.

Disclaimer--This giveaway is open to those with mailing addresses within the US only.  As the cost of postage to foreign countries has gotten too high I am sorry to say I can no longer afford to mail boxes outside the US.  These giveaways are not sponsored by any companies.  I pay for it all(the cost of items given away and the postage to mail it all)out of my own pocket.

***PLEASE NOTE***

Please make sure there is a way for me to contact you in your comment.

If you're not a registered Blogger User with your contact information on your User page, please put your email addy in your comment or email me your email addy privately when you leave a comment so I can get a hold of you. If your Blogger associated user profile is a GOOGLE one make sure your email info is linked to your profile.

If I can't contact you then you can't win.  I am still having to disqualify entries due to this issue and I sure don't like doing that.  Thanks!

FRUGAL TIP--And here is a tip to make Halloween trick or treating/partying frugal.  If you have the freezer space, hit the after Halloween candy sales(50% off candy!)and buy/put enough in your freezer for next year's Halloween trick or treating or if you throw a party and need candy for it.

I do this buying ahead and freezing because well, candy is soooo expensive these days(and it seems to go up every year).  Even though my "kids" are 28, 26 and 23, I still like to give out goodies to the neighborhood kids.   50% off candy won't put as big a dent into your budget.  ;-)

So let's get this Spooky OCTOBER Giveaway started.  Good Luck to everyone!!!

  1. I only remember going trick or treating a couple of times as a child and one of those was in the rain! We were crazy back then. No worries about razor blades, poison, needles, etc. Just plain fun.

  2. I have a love/ hate relationship with Halloween. I like seeing all the kids in costume but the rudeness of kids and parents trick or treating gets to me every year when I take the kids out. Or the greediness of other kids, etc.

  3. The worst thing I got for Halloween was a used coloring book. A family was moving and they were giving out stuff they didn't want. I was excited at first but then I opened it up and it was half colored in. I was about 7.

  4. I love the jack-o'-lantern s at Halloween the most, well besides Reeses!

  5. I don't remember having a costume as a child. If I had a costume, it was something put together by my mother.

  6. I love Halloween - when the kids were little it was so much fun watching them pick out the costume they wanted....and going through their candy when they went to bed :).

  7. I still love eating Halloween candy, and my favorite is still Snickers. Lucky for me, the kids don't like them :-)

  8. I love seeing all the neighborhood kids at my door. Every year I give a regular size Hershey bar to each trick or treater. Usually I buy them by the 30 pack at Costco, but this year Publix had the 6 bar packs BOGO. After doing the math I figured the cost per bar was 39 cents at Publix and 57 cents at Costco (includes tax) It was a no brainer even though I had to go daily for 6 days to get enough for all the kids who come here because I was limited to 1 deal per visit. Ask me how many days I asked TheHub to pick up Hershey bars when he went on his evening recreational shopping spree

  12. As a kid we were pretty poor even though I never knew it. For Halloween my mom would throw an extra large sweat shirt on me and tie a rope or belt around the bottom then stuff it with crinkled newspaper. That was my whole costume. lol. Halloween was fun as we always went to my uncles house and he took us around his neighborhood. We lived too far out in the country to get from house to house. I remember him saying - Only go to the doors with the porch light on. If they have no light on or a white cloth tied to the door knob they don't do Halloween. Sometimes they didn't believe in it and other people were too elderly to be getting up and down to open the door. Take care.

  13. Favorite costume was Ozzy two years ago. My coworker dressed up as Sharon and I stumbled around after her calling out “Shaaaaaron!” I’m in a new department this year so may recycle my Ozzie costume if I can find those blue sunglasses.

  15. My husband enjoys handing out candy for Halloween. We got about 20 Trick or Treaters last year. I already purchased chocolate to give away - mainly from CVS with ecbs/coupon.

  16. One year I made a witch costume out of black plastic bags. People couldn't believe I made it, and what I made it out of!

  17. We lived in aan area with few houses, aka the country. So, going to the Halloween carnival at the elementary school was in place of Trick or Treating. I now remember going as something, obviously nothing memorable. I liked chocolate then and still favor it now.

  18. I am not really a fan of Halloween but I remember how fun it was when I was a kid so I go along with it and give out good candy and think to myself, it is only for one night!

  19. We have to dress up for work on Halloween. I am, to put it mildly, not thrilled about this. I found what looks like a hand-made peasant costume at a local thrift store. It's purple and black, and long enough to be work-appropriate. I'm going to add a pointy witch's hat, and go to work on Halloween as "That *W*itch from HR"!

    ReplyDelete
  20. My favorite Halloween candy is candy corn. It is SO addictive!! I don't even buy it but there is always a stash in the candy jar at work :|

    ReplyDelete
  21. Not a big fan of dressing up now but I used to be as a child. My favorite costume was one my mom made for me. I was Little Bo Peep.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I love to dress up! I work in an elementary school that does literacy day for Halloween so we all get to dress up as book characters each year. My mom always made our costumes - my favorite and least favorite were the same. One year I dressed up as I Dream of Genie - I'm from Massachusetts. The costume was awesome! It snowed on Halloween. I remember freezing my butt off. Like I said, my favorite costume and my worst.

  24. I love Halloween but I rarely do anything for it. I loved trick or treating as a kid.

  25. My favorite costume was one I sewed for my daughter - a snow white costume in which she won a contest - $50. Nice chunk of change back then. She is now all grown and ex-CG.
    Fond memories. Kim N.

  26. I didn't care very much for Halloween as a kid, but I definitely enjoy it as an adult! I love seeing my kids dress up, and how excited they get. I get a big kick out of seeing all the neighborhood kids dressed up too.

  29. My favorite costume as a child was a fortune teller. It was so pretty and I remember my mom waking me up by measuring the skirt on me because she was up all night sewing it. IT also is a funny memory because I walked around all day telling people I was Gypsy Rose Lee, I will never forget the look of mild horror on my mother's face when my teacher told her after school. It was many years before I got what was so funny.

  30. All of my Halloween costumes were handmade by my mom. And I must say they were always the best ~ she was a talented seamstress and we had little money. She even made several for my kids and I have kept a few for my grandchildren. Teddie

  31. Fall is my favorite season but I never seem to get around to decorating for it. And Halloween never gets any attention :) It seems that September and October just fly buy every year. Maybe I need to plan a vacation during the fall just so I can slow down and enjoy the view

    ReplyDelete
  32. I remember Halloween as a time I usually had strep throat so it was hit or miss as to whether I got to go trick or treating or not. I loved taking my kids around the neighborhood in their costumes and passing out candy at the door, seeing all the children in their costumes. Jeanette

  33. My dad and I always had kid counting contests. I lived in Nevada and my parents were in Oregon. We would call back and forth all evening with updates on how many trick or treaters we both had. He usually won. Mom and Dad went all out on Halloween goodies and lived across the street from a grade school so all the kids would wave at him as they went to school every morning and got picked up every afternoon. He always stood in the yard or sat on the porch to watch that the kids were safe.
    Good memories.

  36. Candy corn and popcorn balls used to be my favorite tasting Halloween treat. Now, I am not a big fan of either. Now that I am trying to stay away from sugar, not sure what my favorite treat would be. Kim N.

  37. My mom always made my costumes. The most memorable one was one year when I had a super cool costume but then it snowed so my mom improvised and I was a duck...basically, a yellow bath towel over my heavy winter coat, LOL.

  38. I am not a big fan of Halloween but my kiddos did do costumes and they loved the candy. I loved the Twix bars they brought home. I told them the Twix were payment toward the mommy-tax they incurred because I had to take them trick-or-treating. :) clarksrfun at gmail dot com

  41. What I like best about this time of the year, is the cool weather. So nice and comfortable and even better when the sun is shining.

  42. My tastes haven't changed much since I was a kid. I hated black licorice then and I still hate it now! And Snickers are still the very best!

  43. Most of our costumes were homemade as a kid, but I do remember one year of having a store bought costume with the hard plastic mask! I think I preferred the homemade costumes lol!

  46. The first costume I made for myself as opposed to putting something together was a clown costume. Someone wanted to borrow it and would not return it. About that time we moved far away and I never did get it back despite many attempts. I hope she fell down in it, ruined it and could not wear it or got fat.

  47. I love Halloween! My favorite costume was back in the mid 80’s. I went as Princess Diana. Mind you, I look nothing like her and I’m sure nobody answering a door knew I was trying to be her. I’m sure I just looked like a generic princess in the flower girl gown I’d worn months earlier with a ren fest crown of flowers and homemade wand, with long wavy brown hair. She was the most gorgeous and positively influential woman in the news at that time and I adored her.

  52. First year we moved to Reno the boys were little. Lived in a 300 unit apt. complex with lots of kids. Moved in a few weeks before Halloween. Husband was at work that night and the boys and I hid out in the back bedroom with all the lights out and watched a movie and ate pizza, popcorn and candy. The door bell rang non stop so I can only imagine how much it would have cost me for candy. We moved into a house the next year and resumed having candy for trick or treaters. Take care.

  54. Halloween these days is celebrated with a Trunk or Treat party at our church. It is a BIG deal with costumes, candy, food, games and lots of laughter. It is nice to see kids celebrating in a safe environment (something we didn't have to worry about growing up).

  56. The last costume and the best was for a guy and me. We went to the thrift store and found a tuxedo shirt in his size--$1, black pants--$1, shoes--free. I made him a cummerbund and a black cape lined in red satin. I made a long dress for myself by laying the fabric on the floor and just cutting free-style. It only needed shoulder and side seams because it was nylon slip material. I also made a cape out of lace that was spider-webbed. Then I put two bite marks on my neck with blood dribbling. Then, I used bought green and white makeup on his face. This terrified his 3-yr-old granddaughter. I had a bag of plastic spider rings I bought on clearance the year before and used those for cuff links and buttons. I made some sort of medallion on a ribbon to complete his Count Dracula costume. My sleeveless dress and lace cape were not enough against the night temperature. So, I wore a black sweater over the dress. Mind you, I made all this the day before Halloween and Halloween Day.

  59. The thing I'd most want from that box is the mascara! I go through it all the time and it's so expensive. Also those cough drops because I lose my voice every fall like clockwork.

  60. This post made me think hard. I remember counting myself very lucky as a child if I got one of the masks that was black with eyeholes. It was not a whole face mask.

  65. Today I am thinking Pumpkin bread. I am not really a pumpkin spice kind of girl but have a basic Pumpkin bread recipe using canned pumpkin that I got years ago from a cookbook put out by Special Olympics. It's easy and good and everyone thinks it's special if I put it in small loaf pans. lol. Take care.

  74. I wasn't here for Halloween last year - so it will be my first to experience as a retiree. Many places it seems Trick or Treaters have opted to go to their mall, church or other function to get treats. We lived in places where we might get a handful - and end up with lots of candy leftover and we have lived in places where we thought we might run out . . . my husband was here last year and claimed a lot of people stopped by. I swear I have 8 packages of snack sized candy bars . . .it will be interesting to see if his "a lot" is really my "a lot" and we what the candy situation will be at the end of the night.

  75. My husband has been sick for 3 weeks and used up all of our cough drops.. so we could really use those in the giveaway box!

  76. The scariest Halloween costume I ever saw was a man in a Scream mask. It was so scary because the man was my brother and he had hidden in my closet and waited until I was half asleep before slowly opening the door and stepping silently out. Screams heard round the neighborhood, I'm sure.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I love that so many places are doing things like trunk or treat anymore. Plus malls and libraries around here too. It gives other options that are safer for kids and parents. Plus the indoor ones are good if the weather is bad. I remember as a kid and when my kids were little that the weather seemed to be raining about 90% of the time on Halloween. Also here in Sparks (a town connected to Reno) we usually trick or treat one day and Reno picks a day before or a day after so if you are a smart kid you hit both nights. lol.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I made my daughter a Wonder Woman costume when she was about ten. She wore a leotard and I made the gold crown, belt, wrist cuffs and lasso. Then, when she was in her twenties, I made her another one that fit even though I could not measure her. She followed my instructions on how and where to measure. I sewed long distance and mailed it to her.

  82. What do I really love about Halloween? Making Fall crafts. I love DIY, using up scraps from around the house to make something else to enjoy.

  83. Costume last year was Edina and my coworker was Patsy from Ab Fab. We were a mess for anyone familiar with the show.

Halloween plans involve sitting around a fire pit in my driveway if the weather cooperates. It seems to rain every other year.

  85. While our kids were growing up, we always took them to a neighboring townhouse development. Much easier for us to walk around since we lived on a dead end road with no street lights (only 5 houses on the road). For the entire 27 years we lived in that house we NEVER had one trick or treater (and I left a candy bowl on the front porch while we were taking our kids out - candy was never touched!). We live in a new neighborhood this year and I curious to see how many trick or treaters we get. Of course, my kids are all young adults now so no trick or treating for them! Thanks for the chance!
