How My Week is Going So Far

Well I've been on 3 grocery shopping trips so far this week-two trips to the local grocery stores and one trip to the bread outlet.  The highest total was $29 something, the lowest $11 and I've let $50+ out of my wallet.
Not bad considering and the food budget is not blown....yet! ;-)

The meal plan is sort of working so far this week too.

Both Daughter and BF have gotten jobs already.  Daughter went out Monday and applied to 2 places and by that evening she had a job offer at one.  It's just a part time job as she will be starting back to college in August.
The BF went out yesterday to 1 place and they hired him on the spot.  It's the same work he was doing in LA and the same sort of facility.  The guy was shocked that someone walked off the street with his experience to apply for a job there.  I guess that doesn't happen much as it's specialized work that they usually have to train applicants to perform.
This was the first job BF has gotten on his own, his previous job he got through his dad so I think he's a bit chuffed over all this.  8-)
And BF started work this morning already!

I've been doing a bit of granddog sitting as Daughter and BF have been on the go almost every day since they got here.

The dog has been spending a lot of time waiting at doors and whining.....I HATE whining!! lolz
She's s big dog and Husky mix so she likes to PULL.
Grandma here is having hard time with her.  The poor dog needs more exercise than she is getting and is bored to boot.  I've got to come up with a way to occupy her a bit more.
And she needs training.......she has my Daughter trained instead of the other way around. sigh

Daughter and BF went out to buy BF some lunch foods and breakfast sandwiches for the mornings he works.
I came down this morning to this sight.......

That's a grocery receipt in my wastebasket.
This makes me sad.........

Ok, I've got to go start making my homemade enchilada sauce for tonight's chicken enchilada.
It's a process people. lolz

Then it's back to the dining room to go through the last 2 boxes of papers.

What are you up to today?

Sluggy

  1. The fact they both got jobs so soon makes me feel less anxious about your houseful. Congratulations to them. Didn't you have a relative, a teen, who could not get a job for ages?

Maybe you can train them to be frugal.

If they walk the dog twice a day, won't that be enough activity for him. Don't walk him yourself. I have two friends who landed in the emergency room after being pulled down on pavement by pulling dogs.

It is good to hear a less frantic tone to your post today.

  3. why does the receipt make you anxious? isn't it good they are pitching in for their own food?

    1. The fact she throws out receipts and doesn't keep track of what she is spending makes me sad.

    2. Oh, I see. Maybe you can somehow bring it to her attention that saving the receipts will help her figure out what lunches cost. Or something. No, I am not anonymous, just wondered that, too. Well, maybe I am anonymous...lol. Typing on my back makes for some silly mistakes.

    3. Or if she is like my daughter who charges everything, she has a receipt when she checks online. When DD visited recently, she wanted to go get a chicken sandwich- charged that at the wndow LOL. Drives me batty but my sisters do the same thing. They never have cash- always charge but pay the bill off monthly.

  4. I know what you mean on the receipt. When you are trying to figure out budgets, and taking care of how the money stretches, you want to reconcile! I'm glad they are jumping into responsibility though and understand that with them working, they can start to contribute immediately.

  5. Glad to see they found jobs quickly, particularly the BF. More work=more money=less time living with you!
I am not sure how I would handle so many people back home. Just having Son1 and family here for a week throws my routine out of whack. I guess routines have to change to accommodate change.
And now the big cooking begins! You forget how easy it is to cook for 2.

  6. Great that they both found employment. Does the grocery receipt make you sad as they can ill afford to buy anything? Is your agreement that they are on their own for bfst/lunch but dinner is included?

    1. We haven't talked specifics but I suppose BF will buy his own Bkfst/Lunch foods for work but eat what is here on weekends. Daughter will be eating at her job(free meal)when she works.

  7. Sounds like all good news...well, except for the bored dog. Hopefully he'll get used to his new environment quickly and stop whining. Do you have a dog park you can take him to for an hour or so? That usually helps.

    1. No dog parks unless we go to a playground that's fence enclosed and let her run around if no kids are there(and pick up any "gifts" before we leave), but even those enclosed playground/parks are non-existent here.

    2. My sister has a full blood husky and they need LOTS of exercise! They are also VERY smart and can figure out how to open gates and locks by watching you. Don't be surprised if this dog has these characteristics too.

  8. And you are doing of this sober. So damned proud of you. LOL
It will get better. Seems they hit the ground running. They might not be there as long as you thought. And that is pretty impressive on BF's part.

    1. I'd be a lot less anxious if their stuff still wasn't all over the house. lol

FYI-doing this sober until tonight....I plan on tying a good one on soon. 8-)

  9. How terrific that they both have jobs already! I know the receipt in the trash is not a good sign hopeful your frugal ways will rub off on them. I hope you're able to find a solution for their dog.

  10. Not sure if this is even something that is in your area - but in my state - doggie daycares are pretty common - they care for and exercise the dogs a lot. I could not even imagine to guess the rates - so it may not even be doable if they had them.

  11. I don't mind babysitting Kazi's cats - they pretty much look after themselves - but a dog really needs a lot more attention. Is there a neighbourhood kid who could walk him? For a fee of course.

  12. Do you have a fenced in yard that the dog can't dig out of?? You've def got a houseful this summer. More chaotic than my house even! Well from this angle it looks like it... ;)

  13. Great news about your daughter and her BFs jobs. So nice when things come together. Dogs are definitely high maintenance. No solutions there as I have my own difficulty keeping the dog happy and busy.

  14. Glad they found jobs! A kong for a large dog with peanut butter in it keeps them busy for a while. They also have a thing called ifetch at bed bath and beyond the dog drops the ball in and machine throws for them. They probably have other things like it. Maybe these things will help.
