Random Happenings Lately at Chez Sluggy

*  Well it's almost Christmas time so I opened my sealed pot 2 weeks ago.......well it's not sealed just rolled up, so I just took it out of the basket and counted it.........

And then lugged it up to the bank and turned it into this........

The rolled loose change tally for 2015--$116.50.
That will go toward paying for Christmas.

*  In other Christmas hacks........
I used credit card reward points to get some gift cards for gift giving this year.
Cost to me?  Zero.

Christmas stocking stuffers this year are mostly items gotten from Rite-Aid which were paid for with Plenti points/sales/coupons.
Cost Out of Pocket?  Zero.

Bought $100 in gift cards at Weis this week and earned a $10 off Your Next Shopping Order Catalina.  That will go toward buying a hunk of beef for Christmas Dinner.

*  Speaking of Christmas I am not feeling the Season yet.  For one thing the weather here has been VERY unseasonable.  It was 60+F here today!!
My car registered 63F when I got home and the bank sign down the road read 66F when I drove by it....geez!

Not that I'm complaining really but I'm use to frigid cold and snow by now having lived up North since 1984.

*  Don't forget to enter my Giveaway before it ends on Wednesday December 16th.
I really thought I'd have more entries at this point in the process.  It's either due to folks just being too busy to be reading blogs due to the Holidays and all the extra work/effort that entails AND/OR the sort of readers I have aren't into "stuff", are more on the frugal end of the spectrum and would rather have useful stuff like toiletries and HBA items.....and chocolate of course. ;-)
What do you think??

*  I've been changing up the BlogRoll too if y'all haven't noticed.  Adding a few folks and I'll be removing some who no longer post or I don't feel are relevant to me anymore.  If you have any suggestions for new blogs(or old blogs that I don't know about)feel free to suggest them to be added to the list.

*  In other blog business--I noticed that I keep bouncing between having 285 followers and 286 followers for the past month or so.  There is someone who keeps un-following and then re-following I think. Can they not make up their mind? lolz  Not that I care but it is odd.....or maybe I am just odd for noticing? ;-)

*  2015 is quickly coming to an end and 2016 is just around the corner.  Did this year just fly by or is it just my perception?!?
I need to sit down sometime this week and start thinking about Goals for 2016.  Other than keeping up with the exercise I started in 2015 I don't have anything else for that list.  We never did the big home repair/maintenance planned for 2015 so I guess that moves to next year as the money to pay for it is sitting in our account.  I plan to take some time to reflect and re-evaluate some of my aims in life after the Holidays.  Boy, does that sound lofty and pretentious or what? lolz

Ok I am off now to gather some more goodies to send off to charity.  I am trying to get 3 more donations made before 2015 ends and most of that will happen this week...I hope. 8-)

What are you up to lately?

Sluggy

  1. We too have a piggy bank for our loose coins; when it is full up Someone rolls them as pictured here. Apparently it is not wise in terms of cash flow but it's a fun hobby and it literally costs only pennies.

    1. Well the earning power of change in the bank vs. rolling and cashing it in lately is not hurting anyone's net worth doing one over the other I'd say. And a fun activity rolling change is too!

  2. No, it is not lofty or pretentious, just well-put and something everyone should do.

    1. Yes, but so hard for most folks to find the time and quiet to sit and ponder deeply this time of year.

  3. Well, I'm lazy and take my coins to the machine at the supermarket. (I know, I know!). We do this when our hall jar is full and it usually yields $40 or so. We spend it on going out to dinner. I don't enter your giveaways for precisely the reason you stated, I don't need more stuff. I think it's great that you do it though. I too am working on my 2016 goals, something I don't normally do but I'm hoping this new year will be better and I have to help make that happen.

    1. Yes, all the help you can give yourself in terms of goals and achieving them is time well spent.

I agree most of us don't need more "stuff" especially us in our Chapter Two of life and we've spent our younger years acquiring stuff. Time to let it go as that horrendously overplayed song says. lolz

  4. So lucky- my bank has a coin machine and will give you the cash or add it to your account- no charge! I save all my change and then give it to the grandsons. I've been contemplating 2016 goals too. I just love my Fitbit and that might be something you'd like as a gift. It tells me how many steps I take everyday and then I try to beat them. I usually do 8-10000 which isn't that much but some days I am stuck inside at the computer. I am finally getting in the Chritmas mood- today I'm starting to deliver gifts to my clients. Some have absolutely no family at all so what I or another service provider give them is it. I let them open it when I deliver if they want. The grands had Christmas band concerts last week and church is gearing up for celebrations. Less then 2 weeks!!!!

    1. It's nice you have ready made opportunities for giving at the Holidays. More people could take a lesson from you.
As for electronic gizmos.....you don't know me too well, do you? ;-) Not my thing but if it floats your boat I say go for it!

    2. Oh gosh I am far from techie- I have to get help with my computer all the time and i use no apps on my phone. I sued to use a pedometer but they were always falling off my belt so that's why the Fitbit is great for me. I bought it myself as a Mother's Day gift! I just log onto the website whenever I want and it tells me how active I have been. I'm overweight and fairly sedentary but I rarely get sick so something is right with me. I need all the walking I can get in- my resolution to join Planet fitness never pans out. I'm not even going to mention joining in 2016.

  5. That's a good amount of change. About the followers-if they're like me she maybe hasn't really figured out all the ins and outs of blogging. I keep deleting instead of publishing comments.

    1. Blogger did that(blasted it away)to one of my posts recently. Makes me want to chew nails, the steel kind. lol

  6. I have noticed the same thing on my blog, Sluggy. I have 45 followers, but it keeps switching back and forth from 44 to 45. Very odd.

You had a lot of money in your seal pot! Very nice to have that to add to your Christmas. :)

It's warm here too, one day at the end of last week was 70 degrees. Ugh. I am ready for cooler weather. Seems like we stay warmer more days of the year now than not.

I have 4 days left to work this week and then we are off for 2 weeks. I have been doing stuff to get ready for Christmas, but being off will help in that regard.

    1. And since I wrote this I am up to 287. Cross your fingers it doesn't go back down to 286 anytime soon. lol
70 is warm for where you are but no where NEAR the disparity for our warm spell this time of year up here. Our avg. Dec. temp is between 30-20. geez!

  7. Didn't you charge Mr. Sluggy's car? I bet you got a ton of miles for that!
I'm pretty much a failure for 2015. Oh well, there is always 2016 that I can mess up, errr I mean make a comeback.

    1. Yah, I did get a TON of reward points but it only was worth about $200 in gift cards. Pitiful......but something, right?

Our 2016 is going to be the best yet!!!

  8. One of my NYR's is to learn the ins and outs of the Rite Aid reward points. I want to be a shopping guru like you are. Of course with Walgreen/Rite Aid merging I know things will change.

We keep our change is a big jar and wind up with a couple of hundred a year. It is always worth it to put it somewhere out of use.
