This Week on the Dining Table

It's the "Getting Back into the Groove but It's Too Hot to Cook" Edition--Got back last Tuesday evening from VA and threw together a half-assed meal plan for the rest of the week.  Trying to get back into the "frugal groove" but it's turned hot here suddenly so who wants to slave away in the kitchen right now?  Not I....

Onward to the meal planning!

Here's what was planned last week.......

1. Sunday--?
2. Monday--?
3. Tuesday--?
4. Wednesday--?
5. Thursday--?
6, Friday--?
7. Saturday--?

And this is what actually happened--

1. Sunday--Padonia Ale House burgers for Lunch, Mexican Restaurant chicken for Dinner
2. Monday--Chicken sammich Friendly's for Lunch, Waffle House Steak and Eggs for Dinner
3. Tuesday--Brew Pub Sandwiches for Lunch, Subway seafood sub for Dinner
4. Wednesday--Logan's for steak(Eldest son's birthday meal)
5. Thursday--Fried Shrimp and Corn Casserole
6, Friday--Barbecue Pork Sandwiches, Cole Slaw
7. Saturday--Fend For Yourself Night(I had a hot dog and leftover corn casserole, salad)

Other than Thus and Friday I didn't cook last week.

As for my grocery spending last week.....
I made up for lost time being gone the first part of the week--2 trips to Weis(2nd trip was for 2 more chickens at .87¢ lb.)and 1 trip to Maine Source came out to a total of $90.36 for the week.
The previous week's food spending was $81.60.

The food spending is up to about $270.51 for July and we have 10 days or so left until August rolls around.  I wanted to only spend $300 on food/toiletries in July.  I doubt I'll stay under $300 but I'll try to keep it in that neighborhood rather than in the $400 neighborhood.  8-)

Leftovers going into this week--baked beans(picnic leftover), clam chowder, corn casserole, pulled pork bbq and cole slaw.

Here is this week's food plan--

1. Sunday--Chicken Parm, Tossed Salad
2. Monday--Roast Chicken, Squash Casserole
3. Tuesday--Leftovers
4. Wednesday--Tacos
5. Thursday--Pulled Pork Sandwiches with Cole Slaw(leftover)
6, Friday--BLT sandwiches
7. Saturday--Leftovers

This week's weather looks like it will go into the 90's again so no oven cooking this week.  A few stove top preparations and the chicken will be cooked in the roaster.

What I need to buy for this menu?.....maybe some lettuce for the tacos.

What is getting fixed and served at your house this week?

Was last week's plan successful, did you go off plan or did you not even plan what was going to be eaten that week?

Any great deals on food at your stores this week?

  1. It is just hot as Hell here right now with insane humidity. Unless it can be cooked on the grill or a crock pot on the porch, it isn't being cooked here.
I loved your meals for last week. I get tired of eating out, but when it is this hot I am all for it.

  2. I agree it's too flipping hot to cook at the moment. Thanks for all the advice today on my blog.

  3. So I lost all track of where June and early July groceries were at. We use the CC to get the 3% back, but not a good strategy when I counted close to $500 between June 7 and July 6, the time frame of the card. And that is with basically three of us, and one gone a week. I did buy fruit for a friends daughters grad party, extra food because we had 4 extra guests for 4th of July weekend, and sent older daughter back with a few things from my pantry, but still. I am trying to be extra careful now the rest of July and as we head into August and plan and use up freezer, fridge, and pantry and only shop for great bargains or to round out meals (at lowest I can go prices.)

  5. I'm trying to use what I have in the freezer and can cook in the crockpot. (Cubed steak last night and a turkey breast tonight - who knew?) Pinterest is my new best friend.
