Well That Was Quick!

Hubs started talking about getting a new-to-us car about a month ago.  He's been driving what use to be the kids/third car after we got rid of his car but it's been having issues like recalls and check engine lights going on and off randomly.

So we went out yesterday and we came home with this..............

a 2014 Chevy Malibu

We got it from Enterprise Rentals and the price was right.
So the bulk of Hubs bonus has now been spent.

I wasn't expecting him to act on this so soon since we don't need a third car for College Boy until May but Enterprise was running a special on Malibus until the end of March so he jumped on this.

It was so much fun to see the sales persons eyes get real wide when they pulled out financing forms and before they could start pestering us with questions, we asked if they wanted us to put the whole thing on our credit card(which we pay off each month)or write them a check for the entire price. lolz
I guess they don't get many people coming in and paying cash in full for cars.  ;-)
We put it on the card by the way, just to get the points.

Hopefully we have enough in bonus monies left to get our bathroom fixed up, buy a small freezer and seal the new driveway in the Fall.

I am dreading the bump up in car insurance we will be paying though.  It was nice to only have 2 cars on it for the little while it lasted. 8-(

  1. Nice car! I like the color and hopefully it will last you guys a good long time. My car was a former rental car too. It had the front bumper part pulled off (probably from parking over a curb and backing out) and then it was sent to auction where a guy bought it, replaced the front valance/bumper and we got it for half new price. It only had 4700 or so miles on it and still had all the plastic on the mats. I've had it 4 years now and never a problem (knock on wood).

    1. Nice score for you!
We hope to finish off Hubs working/commuting years in this chariot. And it's much nicer(read more features)than the last Malibu he bought.

  2. I bought a 2000 Malibu rental in 2002 with 57K miles on it. I have had to repair and replace things, but it seems like normal wear and tear for a car approaching 200K miles. Right now, I have to take it in for power steering problems. But, it has been good car.

  3. Nice looking car! I also paid cash for my current, rental bought thru a dealership car. Salesguy was impressed. During the transaction, we were briefly interupted when another customer dropped off a credit application to buy his used car-he was recently divorced and needed at 55 y.o. to have his DAD co-sign the application for credit. Salesguy said something about divorce ruining credit. I advised him that I was also recently divorced but my credit remains awesome, and yes, I will be paying CASH. : )

  4. The last used vehicle we bought from a dealership would only allow us to put $2000 on a credit card - they are getting wise to us point queens who have the cash to pay it off immediately.

    1. Well SSSSHHHH!.....don't tell anymore of 'em. lolz
Last year's dealership purchase only allowed $1K on the card. I still got a few points then but this will be a Mess 'O points! hehehe

  5. There's got to be a sort of huge sigh of relief at not having to car shop for weeks and weeks. I despise car shopping... wait, any sort of shopping actually. I might have issues.

Congrats on the new ride! It looks super nice!!!

    1. Thanks Rivulet!
Hubs is a terrible negotiator. I did all the negotiating last year. This area is very misogynistic and the saleman only talked TO Hubs. When I called up later and dickered with him I think he was flummoxed. lolz
I HATE dickering but for my purple vehicle I bit the bullet and haggled.
Buying from Enterprise there is no haggling with sales people. IT's sort of like Saturn use to be.....the price you see is what you pay(plus fees, taxes, registration of course).

    2. Oh wow, I've never heard of no dickering on a car! I thought you had to in order to not get raked over the coals. High five to you for calling him up and trying to though :) Yeah!

My husband will NOT haggle! He's so much like his mother. Hm, maybe another reason I HATE to car shop.

  6. Hi Sluggy. They let you put the entire car purchase on your credit card? (I just bought a car...) When I was doing my research the Enterprise, Hertz and regular dealerships would only allow $5K on a credit card. Big bummer because I was hoping to put the entire thing on it for points or cash back. (I ended up paying the rest in cash.)

    Anyway, pretty car :-)

    1. Hi Pru,
This Enterprise let us put the whole thing on our MC. Last year, when I bought the new-new car at the dealership they would only allow $1K on a card and the rest on a personal check, so I went into this thinking we'd do something similar. Could have knocked me over with a feather when they allowed it ALL on the cc! lolz

  7. Congrats! With our last new car, we were able to pay cash and boy that was fun. Our plan is to pay cash for the next one too, so we are saving up.

    1. That's the Dave Ramsey system, pay cash for as much car as you can afford and while you drive that one around, start saving for the next one. Early on we did have to finance some cars(read broke newly minted college students and/or young people)but it's been all "paid in cash" since 1995.

  8. Nice car! I didn't think to put any of ours on the cc for the points. I guess I was having to much fun getting the deal I wanted. LOL!

  9. Congratulations! It is beautiful. I just bought one last week too and paid cash in full. I was concerned about the increase in insurance too, but with no car payment that will help.
