This Week on The Dining Table

The "It's Indian Summer Here and I'm Getting Sick" Edition.......

Since we have had a frost(not to mention 3 inches of snow last week!)it is truly Indian Summer outside now.
The Wind was wild here last night.  Power going off and on and off and on again as those storms that hit the Midwest rolled through.

Late yesterday, I started feeling puny.  My sinuses can't decide if they want to hurt or not and the barometric pressure changes going on here aren't helping much.

Today it hit 57 degrees here and was sunny but windy.  I didn't get much sleep last night so I'll be crashing as soon as I get this post sent.  I am beat.

Here are the meals that were planned last week--

Sunday--Burgers on Rolls, Collard Greens
Monday--Mushroom Parmesan, Salad
Tuesday--Roasted Chicken, Carrots, Stuffing
Wednesday--leftover Chicken Pot Pie
Thursday--Steak, Roasted Asparagus & Potatoes
Friday--Baked Fish, Coleslaw, Green Beans
Saturday--Chicken & Dumplings

Everything eaten as planned except no Chicken & Dumplings.  We had leftovers that night or just fended for ourselves.  I might have had a chicken sandwich that evening but I can't for the life of me remember now.

As for food spending last week....another bad spending week.  There were 4 trips to the store and I spent $76.66 on $131.06 worth of groceries at 3 different stores.  I've spent $62.45 OVER my $400 November food budget so far and there are 12 days left for this month.
Whatever.  8-P

Leftovers going into this week--leftover chicken(breast and legs/thighs) and coleslaw.

Here's this week's meal plan---

Sunday--Chinese take-out
Monday--Slaw Dogs, Fries and Veggies
Tuesday--Chicken & Dumplings(as I am getting sick and this sounds great!)
Wednesday--Leftover Chinese take-out
Thursday--Sloppy Joes on Onion Rolls
Friday--Pork Chop, Green Beans, Beets, Applesauce
Saturday--Ravioli and Sauce, Green Salad

What I need to purchase for this menu?......
Salad Greens.
On Saturday I'll probably go out and pick up what I need for Turkey day....like a TURKEY(lol), celery, rutabaga and I might buy some pies instead of making them this year.

Price Chopper has a deal this week.....Correction*** This deal is at Weis Markets!.....Mrs. Smith's pies are BOGO, plus if you buy 1 Mrs. Smith pie and an Edwards crème pie(love the key lime one!), there is a $1 PC Q in the weekly ad.  Add in that you can stack this with the ManQs for Edwards pies($.75/1 which doubles to $1)and the Mrs. Smith ($1/1)......So you get 3 pies(one is free)and you get $3 off the cost of the 2 you are paying for, so it comes out to something like $5 for 3 pies.
And that is one less thing I have to make for Thanksgiving, besides making ROOM in the Fridge for them. hehehe

So just a turkey, some veggies and pies later this week and I hope to spend nothing the last week of November on food.  I'll have my $10 gift cert. from the local market so if we need anything next week besides the Turkey day fixings I can use that and not spend any cash.
Sweet.

But then again, I feel like dog doo doo right now so this week's menu may NOT happen if Hubs doesn't feel like cooking this stuff if I take to my bed sick.  I'm sure he'll be fine and he won't starve while I live on Jello until I feel human again.
I went and bought myself a quart of Hot and Sour Soup at the Chinese place for lunch today and have been slurping on that all day to soothe my throat.  Just don't really feel like eating any solid food today.

Just a warning.....if you don't see my blog updates much this week, I'm just sleeping off whatever this sickness turns out to be.  I hope it passes quickly tho. 8-(

What got fixed and served at your house this week?

  1. Is that internal error on your post of the 17th your machine or mine? Try some horseradish for the sinuses, lots of Horsey Sauce from Arby's. Oh, get that sauce I dip eggrolls into. I love it when it hits me right in the forehead when I eat it.

My crud started the beginning of Octover and finally got me about three days at the end. I was so ill and still on antibiotics. I would not wish this on an enemy. Okay, I would give it to my ex...lol. The turkey is thawing, so I may bake it early and freeze part of it.

I just finished the boneless, skinless chicken breasts and will cook another package that are thawed. Some of those might be frozen.
Sweet potatoes, cabbage, green beans, carrots, Romaine, tomatoes--all for this week. Lots of fruits.

It was 69 here today and downright warm.

    1. The error message is either your machine or one of thse frequent blogger glitches.
My malaise seems to be of the current variety I hear about going around....swollen stuff and voice loss. Hope it doesn't hang around for ages tho

  2. That's so crazy - that's what I did when I started feeling sick - went and got soup at the local Thai place - I figured all of that cayenne and other spices would sort me out and knock the virus flying - it didn't work :(

  3. My challenge will be to keep up the budget while working full time. I'm going to try very hard not to let Turkey day run me off the tracks! I had an ear infection that was painful and had me running a fever, luckily I drugged it into submission. I hope you feel better soon! We lost power in the middle of the night last night but luckily I realized it and got our clocks reset so neither of us over-slept. It was garbage night, which made the high winds particularly delightful (NOT!).

    1. "High winds" and "garbage night" should NEVER occur in the same night or sentence. lol

Working again will throw another level of challenge into your budget mix, indeed. Best of luck with it!

  4. Girlfriend, I am sending you good health wishes, you have had enough of the sickness crap! No meal planning here. We had "hash" for dinner, cubed potatoes, ham, onions fried up with cheese on top and eggs on the side. Tasty but a bit of heart attack on a plate. We normally eat pretty healthy but not tonight.

    1. You can't stick to the straight and healthy all the time, right? It just isn't seemly...lol
      Thanks for the well wishes.

  6. I hope that you are feeling better soon. We have had quite a bit of illness going around here. Yuck.
I'm at the point with my budget that I have to up everything. I just can't make it in under because it is set too low and it just makes me feel like a failure every week/month.
