It's Heading Up the Coast Now!

Here's some photos from a friend on Facebook, down from where I am from.
These were taken on Hatteras Island today.  This is the second cycle of high tides since Sandy got offshore there.
That's the Frisco Pier, or rather what's left of it.......

And here are some homes about to be reclaimed by the sea......

Highway 12, the only road through the Outer Banks down to Hatteras is impassable in sections due to flooding and overwash from the sound and the ocean.   Widespread power outages in Eastern NC as well.

The low lying and underpass flooding has commenced in Norfolk VA according to friends in Hampton Roads.

Please don't be an idiot and go wandering out to the coast to see this people.
Stay home and let the adrenalin junkies on the Weather Channel go out in this and show you the pictures.

  1. They have already shut down all the schools in philly(not that I was sending mine anyway..even if one is the teacher) and public transportation is being shut down as of tonight.

All my kids are in the house and staying there. My poor dh is trapped at the hospital and staying there :(

    1. Sorry the Dh is trapped at work but they'd be calling him in anyway in a disaster/emergency, right?

My hubs work bldg has shut down for Monday, but he still gets to work from home....oh joy! But I told him if we got "lucky" we'd lose power so he then couldn't work from home. lol

The high school is closed down for Monday as well....don't know what Daughter's job is doing yet(she works at Sears at the mall).

    1. Stay safe Anonymous. The DelMarVa peninsula/South Jersey looks like ground zero now for it hitting land. Glad I'm not in OC anymore!

  3. Apparently we're going to be feeling Sandy's effects in Southern Ontario also, but as far as I know we won't need to head for the basement :) A day off school would be nice though, HAH!

  4. I am hoping for a day off work but if it means it's at the expense of others who are going to get a bad hit, well I'll be hoping for a less dramatic storm instead. Stay inside and keep dry Sluggy!

    1. I don't mind going out in rain/wind and I would only drive in my tiny town....about 2 whole miles long.lol
As long as the flash flooding stays away, we are good.
      You be safe too!

  5. Being safe down South and having my daughter and her children in Brooklyn makes me more neverous than being in the path of this storm myself. I haope the teen boy has no idea of walking 20 blocks to his girlfriend's habit as is his habit since he has his first girlfriend!

I hope everyone stays home until it passes!I am not talking about just her, everybody!

    1. I hear the NY metro area subways/trains have shut down as of Sunday and they are using loudspeakers to inform everyone who hasn't turned on a tv in the last 3 days.lol
Seems like all the big whigs are taking this one very seriously. I wouldn't worry about Brooklyn...CT shore front will get the brunt of the water surge per the models they've shown on tv.

  6. Public transporation in both NYC and CT is shutting down. People have been repeatedly advised to prepare, to wait this out at home, to stay safe. Experience has taught me, however, that there will most likely be stories of idiots who don't pay any heed to these alerts. Sigh,
    everyone stay safe!

    1. I saw many an idiots growing up going to the oceanfront to experience a Hurricane Party....many never returned.
When I waited tables at a VABch restaurant we'd have a skeleton crew and be closing up early if a storm was coming....can't believe the idiots pounding on the door to get in to eat...just folks out for the day who didn't want to sit home during the storm, so they risk their lives for Mexican food.lolol

    1. Around here it's usually some idiot who thinks they can drive across a flooded roadway. Very bad idea.....

  8. They have also closed all of the schools in our side of MD, and a lot of public buildings, though all we've really gotten so far is some windy rain.

    1. We'd tied down all the things we can't bring inside(chairs, swing, etc.)
It would be cool to still be in our 8th floor oceanfront hotel room in OC tho....if I had a magic ball and could know for sure the building wouldn't have issues. ;-)
      Stay safe Tanner!

  9. Praying for all of you in the path of Sandy.
